Sam has led a number of projects, including the University of Michigan's effort on a multi-million dollar Department of Homeland Security (DHS) sponsored project (D15PC00302) entitled Uptane (github.com/uptane), NHTSA backed automotive sensor cybersecurity research (not yet published), and a Industry/Government collaboration for automotive network pen-testing software now used by 6+ major automakers (Closed source/Confidential output).

His unique combination of hands-on expertise and an ability to rally the industry while creating a consensus about the implementation and use of new tools to further cybersecurity practice in the industry. He previously held a leading role in the development of automotive infotainment systems, specializing in vehicle interfaces, over-the-air update implementations and low level system support at his last position with Harman International.

He has been quoted by numerous publications, including the Washington Post, Christian Science Monitor, Government Technology, Phys.org, and TheStreet. He is actively involved with SAE and government-industry related groups.
